Gathering after a farewell ceremony to remember and eat something together can often be comforting. It creates an opportunity to talk, share memories, and socialize in peace.
There are really no rules about what a memorial gathering should look like. Please feel free to turn to us if you need inspiration and tips on what can be included in the memorial service.
Host
A host can play an important role during the memorial gathering. The host ensures that guests feel welcome and is the one who ensures that planning and program are followed. One of the closest can be the host, but we at the Farewell Bureau can also arrange a host, either with our own or hired personnel. Contact us if you need help with this.
Memory Table
It can be a good idea to arrange a memory table with photos and/or other things that remind you of what you have just said goodbye to. It is also fine to place a memory book on the table where guests can write a few lines.
Memorial Speeches
Giving a speech about the object of the farewell is an important part of the memorial gathering. Unlike speeches given during the farewell ceremony, addressed to the object of the farewell, speeches at the memorial gathering are usually directed at those present and are about the relationships they have had with the object in question.
Music
Music associated with farewells usually brings to mind what is usually played during farewell ceremonies. But music can also be a fitting feature during a memorial service. Maybe you make a break to listen to music or music is played in the background.
Food and Drink
Food and drink at the memorial service can for example be coffee and sandwiches or traditional Swedish herring with beer, but it is just as good with tacos, pizza or whatever feels appropriate at the time. There are often plenty of ideas to be found in various recipe collections.
